About Mother Earth...

 At Mother Earth Childcare Centre, our team is made up of passionate educators and caregivers who believe that children learn best when they feel safe, connected, respected, and valued. 

Our programs are guided by Ontario’s How Does Learning Happen? (HDLH) framework and its four foundations: Belonging, Well-Being, Engagement, and Expression. These foundations shape how we build relationships, support development, create our environments, and respond to each individual child. 

Our Approach 

MECC blends several early childhood philosophies, including Waldorf-inspired, Montessori, Reggio Emilia-inspired, nature-based, and play-based learning. We thoughtfully combine these approaches to create an environment that supports the whole child and respects their individual interests, abilities, and developmental pace. 

Our classrooms are designed to be calm, natural, warm, and inviting, with open-ended materials that encourage creativity, imagination, problem-solving, movement, sensory exploration, and independent learning. 

Children as Capable Learners 

We see children as curious, capable, creative, and full of potential. Rather than simply directing children's learning, our educators observe, listen, participate, and learn alongside them. 

Children are encouraged to make choices, follow their interests, explore at their own pace, and contribute ideas to their learning experiences. Our Montessori-inspired approach supports independence and hands-on learning, while our Waldorf inspiration emphasizes imagination, creativity, rhythm, storytelling, practical life experiences, and connection to nature. 

Nature, Play & Exploration 

Nature and outdoor learning are an important part of the MECC experience. We provide opportunities for children to explore, move, take reasonable risks, experience the seasons, and develop a relationship with the natural world. 

We believe play is meaningful work for young children. Through uninterrupted play, creative experiences, outdoor exploration, and hands-on learning, children develop social, emotional, physical, and cognitive skills while building confidence and curiosity. 

Relationships at the Heart of MECC 

Most importantly, our approach is relationship-based. We strive to create warm, responsive, and trusting relationships with every child and family. 

Our educators understand that children learn through relationships, experiences, imitation, and connection. We work in partnership with families and value open, honest, and ongoing communication. 24 Our team also believes in continually learning and growing. Through professional development, collaboration, observation, and critical reflection, our educators regularly consider how we can strengthen our practice and better support the children and families in our care.
